It was destined to happen but just not expected at this time. With the announcement of our school superintendent's decision to retire November 1, 2010 the school board is now faced with the selection of a new superintendent. This will be only the second time the Polk County School Board has been in the position of hiring a school superintendent.
The decision is one that will have major impact on the direction the district will go. It is imperative that an experienced person be given the reigns in such a troubled economy and time of educational change.

- EDUCATION: I am currently the Vice-Chair and serving my fourth year on the School Board of Polk County (FL). A native of Greenville, SC, I relocated to Polk County in 1972 to attend college. I taught in Polk County (FL) public schools from 1975 until 1994, working afterwards as a contract administrator and teacher resource specialist for the school district. Prior to beginning my service as a board member I designed and conducted annual follow-up surveys of Polk County public school graduates from 1998 - 2006. BUSINESS: I own a real estate sign installation service known as Sign PostMan, LLC. Sign PostMan installs signs from Plant City to Haines City and points beyond. I also have experience in dealing with growth issues as a result of many years of residential property management and service on local planning and zoning boards, as well as experience in both the academic and career (vocational) education arenas. COMMUNITY: I am also a member of the Board of Directors of MIDFLORIDA Credit Union, AMIkids Polk, and a member of the Kiwanis Club of Lakeland. Previously I served on the board of Lakeland Regional Medical Center.
